§ 58. Mr. Masonasked the Secretary of State for Air whether the 250 radiation detection posts, under construction at the beginning of November, 1961, have now been completed; how many more are under construction; how many more beyond this number it is proposed to build; and to what extent he has recruited sufficient personnel within the Royal Air Force and the Royal Observer Corps to man them when required.
§ Mr. AmerySince November, 1961, 100 underground posts have been completed, making a total of 1,100. There are 200 others in various stages of construction, and we plan to build a further 200. Although at present under strength, the Royal Observer Corps, whose responsibility it is, could man these posts in emergency. The Corps would, however, welcome more recruits for this important task.
