HC Deb 20 February 1962 vol 654 c34W
Mr. Brockway

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what agreements have been concluded with the Basutoland Development Corporation and other industrial companies to establish new industries in Basutoland; what industries will be started; and what concessions in taxes, rates, customs and land charges will be made to these companies.

Mr. Maudling

No agreements have been concluded with the Basutoland Development Corporation or other industrial companies to establish new industries in Basutoland. The Corporation has made tentative proposals to introduce small industries such as brick works, an abattoir and a paint factory. Consideration is being given to tax concessions which the Corporation has requested; concessions in rates, customs and land charges have not been discussed.
