§ Mr. MaclaySeparate figures for landlords and owner-occupiers are available only from January, 1960. For the two years 1960 and 1961, discretionary improvement grants approved44W by local authorities amounted to £455,000 in respect of 1,346 houses owned by landlords and £974,000 in respect of 3,359 houses in owner-occupation. For standard grants, 597 applications were approved for houses owned by landlords and 2,658 for owner-occupied houses; the amount of grant is likely to average slightly over £100 a house.
