§ Mr. P. ThomasI assume that the hon. Gentleman is referring to applicants for posts in the Senior Branch of the Foreign Service by the Open Competition for candidates between the ages of 20½ and 28.
In 1961 a total of 360 candidates applied for places; of these 18 had been educated at Scottish schools. Thirty applicants were successful, of whom one had been educated at a Scottish school. This was an independent school.
