Whether they will say who is responsible for the squalid state of that stretch of the northern verge of the Cromwell Road extension that runs between North End Road and the Hammersmith Flyover and whether it can be put into decent order before the criticisms of visitors to the Metropolis en route from London Airport reach unacceptable proportions.
THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT (EARL JELLICOE)I understand that the responsibility for the upkeep and appearance of the strip of land in question on the North side of the Cromwell Road extension is shared between a number of local authorities and individual owners. From the Western end of the strip, near the Hammersmith flyover to the Eastern end, adjoining North End Road the position is as follows. The Western stretch is the responsibility of private owners, the area being zoned for light industry. Next to that is a site which the London County Council propose to develop with flats; I understand that detailed plans are being prepared. Beyond St. Pauls School are privately owned sites for which the London County Council have indicated to the owners the form of development which might he permitted. The rest of the strip, running from Trevanion Road to North End Road, is zoned for public open space for which the Fulham Borough Council are responsible.
