asked the Lord Privy Seal how many American nationals are resident in the United Kingdom and officially employed by the United States Embassy and official agencies; how many of Her Majesty's subjects are resident in the United State of America in similar capacities; and whether he will make a statement on the implications of the present arrangement from the point of view of national security.

There are at present 332 United States citizens employed by the United States Embassy and official agencies in the United Kingdom. This includes 23 United States citizens employed at the eight existing United States Consular posts. In addition there are 409 British subjects employed in this country by the United State Embassy and official agencies.

The total number of British subjects resident in the United States of America and employed at the British Embassy in Washington, at the British Information Services in New York and at the 24 Consular posts in the country is 988. This includes 610 locally employed United Kingdom and Commonwealth citizens.

There are no implications for national security in these arrangements.
