§ Commander Purseyasked the Secretary of State for War (1) if he will state the approximate number of privates and equivalent ranks pensioned on the pre-1919 basic rate of 1s. 1d. per day pension; what is their weekly basic pension; what increases there have been; and what is the present pension;
(2) if he will state the approximate number of privates and equivalent ranks pensioned on the 1930 basic rate of 14s. per week; what increases have been added; and what is the present pension.
§ Mr. ProfumoThe numbers of privates and equivalent ranks pensioned on the pre-1919 and 1930 basic rates of 1s. 1d. a day and 14s. 0d. a week respectively are not readily available. To divert staff to the task of calculating these would cause considerable delay in authorising the increases payable under the new scheme. Details of the increases payable under previous Pensions (Increase) measures on those basic rates, and the rates of pension at present being paid, were given in a Written Answer by the Minister of Defence on 27th June, 1962.
