HC Deb 11 December 1962 vol 669 cc34-5W
58. Mr. Jeger

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware of the shortage of telephone lines in South Yorkshire and the need for modernising the telephone exchanges; and whether he will speed up the programme of work.

Mr. Bevins

The number of telephone applications on the waiting list in South Yorkshire is about 1 per cent. of the number of subscribers in the area. 95 exchanges are automatic: only 5 are manual and these will be converted as soon as possible.
