HC Deb 11 December 1962 vol 669 c34W
55. Mr. Gower

asked the Postmaster-General how many telephone exchanges in Wales are automatic and how many manual; and how many of the latter he expects will be changed to automatic service during the next 12 months.

Mr. Bevins

In Wales and Monmouth there are 428 automatic and 33 manual exchanges at present. I expect nine of the manual exchanges to be converted to automatic working in the next 12 months. STD will be provided at the outset in three of these areas and at 16 other exchanges during the year.
