HC Deb 04 December 1962 vol 668 cc163-4W
95. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many cotton mills have been closed down in Accrington, Rishton, Church, Clayton-le-Moors and Oswaldtwistle, respectively, during the last three years; and how many mills still operate in each of those places.

Mr. D. Price

The figures are as follows:

  • Accrington: mills closed 6: mills still operating 12.
  • Rishton: mills closed 2: mills still operating 2.
  • Church: mills closed 1: mills still operating 6.
  • 164
  • Clayton-le-Moors: mills closed 2: mills still operating 0.
  • Oswaldtwistle: mills closed 0: mills still operating 6.

All but two of these mill closures took place nearly three years ago under the Cotton Weaving Reorganisation Scheme.
