§ Mr. Martenasked the Minister of Transport what was the average number of vehicle accidents on trunk roads per mile in 1961 in England and Wales.
§ Mr. MarplesThe precise information asked for is not readily available. Figures are, however, available of the numbers of persons killed or injured on all Class A roads (including trunk and Class I roads) during the 12-month period November, 1959, to October, 1960, since these figures were specially worked out by the R Research Laboratory. During this period there were on average 8 casualties per mile of Class A road, but this average conceals a large difference between roads in urban and rural areas.
