Mr. R. Gresham Cookeasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, whether he is aware of the difficulties of growers using glasshouses, particularly around London where production is becoming uneconomic; and what action he is taking to assist them.
§ Mr. SoamesI am aware that some districts around London and comparable areas elsewhere are becoming unsuitable for glasshouse production. I have asked my right hon. Friend, the Minister of Housing and Local Government, to consider particularly in the context of the survey of development needs in South-East England which he is making, whether the development of such land for other purposes might, in appropriate cases, be desirable.
