HC Deb 02 August 1962 vol 664 cc142-3W
Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many Sudanese nationals have been extradited from Uganda since 1955; and for what reason they were returned to the Sudan.

Mr. Sandys

The Governor reports that in the short time available he has not been able to make an exhaustive check of the records; but that he is satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that only three Sudanese have been extradited from Uganda since 1955. All three were extradited at the request of the Sudanese authorities to stand trial for murder.

Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why Lachaka Lomiyang was extradited from Uganda to the Sudan in 1958; what proceedings were taken against him in the Sudan; and with what result.

Mr. Sandys

Lachaka Lomiyang was extradited at the request of the Sudanese authorities to stand his trial on a charge of murder. I have no reliable information about the proceedings taken against him on the Sudan, or about the result.
