HC Deb 02 August 1962 vol 664 cc133-4W
Mr. Harold Davies

asked the Minister of Education if he is aware that in moorland and remote districts such as those in some parts of the Leek division, the rules for transporting children in country areas to school place an unfair burden on the parents, and often bring risks and hazards upon the children in winter time; and if he will now change the regulations.

Sir E. Boyle

Local education authorities have power to provide or assist with school transport for children who live within statutory walking distance if they consider that the circumstances justify it. This must remain a matter for their discretion.
