§ 75. Mr. G. Thomasasked the Minister of Education if he will give the number of children in Wales and Monmouth shire who are in classes of more than the limits of 40 in primary schools and 30 in secondary schools; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Sir E. BoyleTable 5 of "Statistics of Education 1961, Part One" shows that in Wales in January, 1961, 17,949 pupils (or 7 per cent.) were in primary school classes with more than 40 pupils and 105,463 pupils (or 60 per cent.) were in secondary classes with more than 30 pupils. The corresponding figures for England were 20 per cent. and 62 per cent. respectively.
