Mr. Boyden

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many women students are being admitted to medical schools as first-year students in October, 1962; what percentage this will be of the current intake of medical students; and how this percentage compares with 1961 and 1960.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Of 2,020 students admitted to pre-clinical courses in the year ended 31st July, 1961, 492 (or 24 per cent.) were women. Figures for the year ended 31st July, 1962, and for admissions in October, 1962, are not yet available.
