§ 36 Mr. Hannanasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is aware of the recent increases in vegetable prices; and if he will introduce legislation to enable him to control the retail prices of these commodities in order to mitigate the present hardship caused to pensioners and other poor people.
Mr. VaneAfter a difficult growing season and a severe winter such as we have just had, fresh vegetables are inevitably scarcer and dearer. Price control could not relieve a temporary shortage. It would do nothing to increase supplies or improve distribution.
