Mr. Gourlayasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state the number of pupils in the first- and fifth-year classes of senior secondary schools in Scotland in the years 1952, 1954, 1956, 1957, 1959, and 1961, the number of pupils presented for the Higher Leaving Certificate and the number acquiring the necessary qualifications to enter university in those years.

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to the hon. Member for Glasgow, Maryhill (Mr. Hannan) on 21st March, when it was explained that it is not possible to extract the requisite information.
