HC Deb 16 April 1962 vol 658 c22W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (Central African Office) what special measures are being taken to check intimidation of the Northern Rhodesia electorate, in view of such threats of violence as those made in a public speech by the publicity secretary of the United National Independence Party against Africans who might stand as Independents and against Europeans, and such incidents as the breaking up by United National Independence Party supporters of an African National Congress meeting at Bancroft, on the same night, resulting in the death of one African and injury to others.

Mr. R. A. Butler

I am satisfied that the Governor has adequate powers and will take all necessary measures to deal with intimidation.
