asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much has been paid out by way of compensation for poultry slaughtered on account of fowl pest in Scotland in each of the last five years.

The amounts paid out by way of compensation for poultry slaughtered and hatching eggs destroyed in Scotland on account of fowl pest during the calendar years 1957–61 respectively, were:£43,464; £4,849; £58,147; £1,099 and £27,837. During the first three months of 1962, £2,952 was paid out for this purpose.

The amounts included in the above figures in respect of hatching eggs are insignificant.
