Mr. Teelingasked the Minister of Transport if he will now make a further statement about the progress which has been made in arranging official discussions with the French Government about the construction of a Channel Tunnel and possible alternative schemes which have been put forward; and what further plans he has for accelerating the reaching of official decisions in this matter.
§ Mr. MarplesThe French Government have agreed to the suggestion made some time ago by Her Majesty's Government that talks should take place about the construction of a Channel Tunnel. I have already discussed this project and possible alternative schemes informally with M. Buron, the French Minister of Public Works and Transport, in London on 2nd October. I hope to have further discussions with him in Paris on 20th November.
