§ Mr. Owenasked the Minister of Education what grants are at present being paid to trainee teachers; what improvement is contemplated in the immediate future; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Sir D. EcclesThe present grants for teachers in training are set out in my Department's Circulars 5/61 and 7/61, of which I am sending copies to the hon. Member. On future improvements, as I explained to the House on 13th November, the Standing Advisory Committee on Grants to Students has been asked to review the maintenance rates and I hope to be able to consider its recommendations early in the New Year.
