§ 50 and 51. Mr. Peartasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) which Department will be responsible for the recruitment of scientific personnel for the Department of Technical Co-operation;
123W(2) if he will give details of scientific personnel to be employed by the Department of Technical Co-operation.
§ Sir E. BoyleThe staffing of the new Department has not yet been settled in detail. It will probably include two posts of Scientific Adviser transferred from the Commonwealth Relations Office, and certain Advisers from the Colonial Office in such fields as agriculture, fisheries, etc. It will also include the directorates of Overseas Surveys and Overseas Geographical Surveys which number about 550 in all.
I do not expect that, at least initially, the creation of the new Department will lead to the creation of new scientific posts. Recruitment to any scientific posts which may fall vacant will be made in the normal way through the Civil Service Commission or the Treasury.
