HC Deb 30 March 1961 vol 637 c158W
56. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a detailed report on the investigations undertaken under the auspices of his Department into the migrations of fish, especially in the waters usually fished by British fishermen.

Mr. Vane

Research into migratory movements of fish is a normal part of the studies of commercial fish stocks by the scientists of the Department and of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland. These studies which cover herring, cod, whiting, plaice and certain other species will continue. The United Kingdom has also taken a leading part in the co-operative investigations into the migration of the herring sponsored by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea.
