HC Deb 21 March 1961 vol 637 c29W
Mr. Willis

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what further progress has been made in the implementation of the provisions of the Mental Health (Scotland) Act, 1960.

Mr. Maclay

Since the beginning of this year the Act has been in operation to the extent necessary to enable patients to enter any hospital for the treatment of mental disorders without any formality. I shall shortly call on local authorities to submit proposals for the provision of their services under the Act, in the light of a recent report from the Scottish Health Services Council and of other guidance which will be issued when consultations with the local authority associations are complete.
