§ Mr. Selwyn LloydIt is the duty of the Economic Adviser to the Government to keep under review the main trends of economic events and to advise Ministers, primarily through the Chancellor of the Exchequer, on the formulation of the Government's economic policy.
90WThe post of Economic Adviser to the Government was created in 1953 with a salary of £3,750 a year.
The present salary is £5,800.
Professor Cairncross will be an established Civil Servant and the expectation is that he will serve at least until he reaches the age of 60, the minimum age of retirement in the Civil Service.
