HC Deb 09 March 1961 vol 636 cc66-8W
Mr. Randall

asked the Lord Privy Seal what information and statistics he has, from information made available to Her Majesty's Government by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, concerning orphan children without other relatives among the Algerian refugees.

Mr. Heath

No exact statistics are available, but from information supplied to Her Majesty's Government by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees it is apparent that the number of refugee children from Algeria who have lost both parents and are not looked after by other relatives is very small. At present the one orphanage available in Morocco is considered sufficient to take care of their needs, and no problem distinct from the general one of refugee children from Algeria exists. As soon as I have further information I shall write to the hon. Member.
