§ 76. Mr. G. M. Thomsonasked the Minister of Labour if he will make a statement on the unemployment position in Dundee in the light of the recent visit of his Parliamentary Secretary to the city.
§ Mr. P. ThomasOn 15th May 4,336 workers were registered as unemployed at Dundee and Broughty Ferry, representing a percentage rate of 4.8. The main problem arises from the current difficulties in the jute industry. I was impressed by the success of the efforts already made to bring new industry into the area, and these efforts are continuing.
