Mr. John Pageasked the Minister of Works what is the annual cost to Her Majesty's Government, including the amortisation of the leasehold purchase price, of the Empress State Building at Earl's Court; by how much this building will increase or decrease the area of accommodation taken up by those Departments transferred to it; and whether the occupation of this building will increase or decrease the numbers of civil servants travelling daily to central London.
§ Lord John HopeThe occupation of the Empress State Building will increase the total area now occupied by the Departments to be transferred to it by 1 per cent. In view of its situation it should decrease the number of civil servants travelling daily to central London. It is not Government policy to publish details of commercial transactions such as leases.
