Mr. McAdden

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many officials of the Departments of the Scottish Office are authorised to enter private residential and landed property without the necessity of obtaining the owner's or occupier's permission.

Fifty-six officers in my Departments are authorised to enter privately owned land or buildings, as follows:

Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland Thirteen scientific officers whose duty it is to inspect grain and other food cargoes in ships and stores for infestation and 28 sea fisheries inspectors who inspect to ensure that no damaged or immature fish are landed and sold.

Scottish Education Department One chief inspectors and six inspectors of child care.

Department of Health for Scotland Three general inspectors; one welfare officer; one chief food and dairy officer and three chemical inspectors.
