HC Deb 27 February 1961 vol 635 c87W
4. Mr. Gower

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many persons received refunds of prescription and similar charges during the last twelve months; and how many of these were persons in receipt of National Assistance grants.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The records available do not indicate the total number of persons who have received grants from the National Assistance Board in respect of charges for prescriptions and other charges under the National Health Service, but I Friend that the total amount of grants made in respect of all these various charges in 1960 was £2,154,000 of which £2,002,000 was paid to persons already receiving a regular weekly National Assistance grant and £152,000 to other persons
