HC Deb 27 February 1961 vol 635 c92W
56. Mr. K. Robinson

asked the Minister of Health what inquiries were made of hospital authorities by the court as to the availability of accommodation and treatment facilities for Peter David Hastings, who was sentenced to five years' imprisonment in the supposed absence of such facilities; why the proper procedure was not followed in this instance by those for whom he is responsible; and what steps he is taking to ensure that this man receives the treatment he needs.

Mr. Powell

Such inquiries are the responsibility of one of the two doctors examining the offender. This was an isolated case of failure on the doctor's part to make due inquiry. As regards the last part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my right hon. Friend, the Home Secretary, on 23rd February.
