HC Deb 21 February 1961 vol 635 cc31-2W
72. Mr. Bowles

asked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science what examination he has made of scientific means whereby the rainfall in Great Britain can be controlled; and whether he will use them to reduce it so that flooding and human depression will be reduced, provided nothing is done to increase international friction.

Mr. Denzil Freeth

My noble Friend is informed that the Meteorological Office is keeping the possibility of controlling rainfall under continuing review, but the advice of competent scientists is that no technique of weather control currently in sight holds out prospects of controlling flooding in Great Britain by this means.
