asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs what was the total amount of compensation paid under the Town and Country Planning Acts of 1954 up to the end of 1960; and what proportion of this compensation ranked as income of the recipient for the purposes of the Income Tax Act, 1952.

The total compensation paid under the Town and Country Planning Act, 1954, up to 31st December, 1960, was £109,999,506, of which £14,560,457 was interest paid, subject to deduction of tax. I understand that the corresponding figures for Scotland are £2.123,541 and £391,981 respectively.
