asked the Attorney-General what is the total number of justices of the peace in England and Wales, including ex officio justices; and what is the number in Lancashire.

The Attorney-General:

According to the latest available information, the total number of justices of the peace in the whole of England and Wales, including justices ex officio, is 22,107. This number includes 3,021, 320 of whom are justices ex officio, who are justices for Lancashire or for the boroughs and county boroughs having separate Commissions of the Peace within the geographical area of Lancashire.
