§ 7. Mr. Ellis Smithasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what instructions he has given to the Metropolitan Police so as to enforce within that area the prohibition of the emission of black poisonous diesel fumes.
§ Mr. Renton:It is primarily for the Commissioner of Police to issue instructions to the Metropolitan Police in matters of law enforcement. His instructions make it clear that police must be on the alert to deal with offences arising from the emission of diesel smoke from vehicles.
