HC Deb 15 February 1961 vol 634 c154W
Mr. Teeling

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he is now in a position to make a further statement to that made by the Prime Minister on 13th March, 1958, concerning the use of Royal Air Force helicopters for civil rescue service off the coast of Sussex.

Mr. W. J. Taylor:

We hope to be able to re-establish a helicopter unit at Thorney Island during the summer. Its main purpose will be the rescue of aircrew but it will be available to help the civil rescue organisations. I cannot, however, say whether we shall require helicopters at Thorney Island permanently.
