asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are now in a position to announce the membership of the Committee of Inquiry into Higher Education.

On December 20 last, in another place the Prime Minister announced the terms of reference of this Committee and said that Lord Robbins had accepted the chairmanship. The Prime Minister is now able to announce that the following have accepted his invitation to serve on the Committee:

  • Dame Kitty Anderson, D.B.E.,
  • Mr. A. Chenevix-Trench,
  • Professor J. M. Dreyer,
  • Mr. H. L. Elvin,
  • Miss Helen Gardner,
  • Sir Edward Herbert, O.B.E.,
  • Sir Patrick Linstead, C.B.E., F.R.S.,
  • Sir Philip Morris, K.C.M.G., C.B E.,
  • Mr. H. C. Shearman,
  • Mr. R. B. Southall, C.B.E.
