§ 83. Mr. Woodburnasked the Postmaster-General, in view of the need to safeguard the public against private monopoly of news and ensure the free expression of political views, whether he will amend the Licence and Agreement of the British Broadcasting Corporation so as to secure Government control of the publication of the Corporation's programmes in order to ensure sufficient revenue to finance an official national daily newspaper.
§ Mr. Bevins:No. The B.B.C. was set up to provide broadcasting services rather than to run a daily newspaper, and, other considerations apart, I think people would be justifiably annoyed at not being able to see details of the B.B.C. programmes in the papers of their choice.
