HC Deb 02 February 1961 vol 633 c154W
Mr. Wall

asked the Minister of State for Commonwealth Relations whether he will make a further statement about the new constitution for the Bechuanaland Protectorate.

Mr. H. Fraser

I have been asked to reply.

The constitutional instruments have been made and were laid before Parliament on 30th December. These give effect to the constitution outlined in Cmnd. 1159, with one modification, namely, that it has been provided that the maximum life of the Legislative Council will be four years, instead of five years. This modification was requested by the Joint Advisory Council in the Protectorate.
