54. Mr. Holt

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many private individuals in the metropolitan area are authorised, by the granting of a firearms certificate, to carry firearms for use in the protection of property.

55. Mr. McAdden

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in how many cases in the Metropolitan Police area approval has been given for the carrying of firearms by bank personnel for use in the course of their duties.

I am informed by the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that he has issued firearm certificates to 33 persons permitting them to carry firearms belonging to their employers when escorting consignments of bullion or bank notes. Certificates have been issued to responsible persons in 4 firms enabling them to hold firearms and ammunition for these purposes.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many firearm certificates have been issued to bank guards in the Metropolitan Police area.
