§ LORD SHACKLETON
asked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether a decision has yet been taken in respect of five major research projects approved in principle by the D.S.I.R. Council, subject to availability of funds.
§ VISCOUNT HAILSHAM
I am glad to say that the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research have decided to offer three of these grants, namely, a nuclear reactor for the Scottish Universities, and two projects in radio astronomy—one for Professor Ryle of Cambridge University, and the other for Professor Sir Bernard Lovell of Manchester University. An announcement about the remaining two projects which are for nuclear reactors, one for London University and the other for Manchester and Liverpool Universities, will be made later.
