Mr. Dempsey

asked the Minister of Defence how many persons during the 1939–45 war joined the Services from Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and the Colonies, respectively; what was the total number of Service personnel from the Commonwealth who supported the war effort; and if he will publish these figures in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Watkinson

I regret that it is not possible to provide the information required without a detailed examination of millions of documents for which the staff is not available.
