HC Deb 12 December 1961 vol 651 cc33-4W
Dr. A. Thompson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will permit hon. Members who address letters to local authorities on public business to use franked envelopes.

Mr. Gourlay

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will extend the use of officially-franked envelopes to hon. Members in corresponding with the official correspondents of local authorities.

Mr. W. Hamilton

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he will now allow hon. Members to use official franked envelopes in dealing with correspondence with local authorities within their area.

Sir E. Boyle

No. The extension of the existing concession would entail additional expenditure by the Exchequer which I could not accept.
