asked the Minister of Transport what action he is taking to improve road traffic conditions at East Ilsley; and if he will state the reason for the delay in establishing a one-way system there.

Mr. Marples

I propose to make Orders for a system of one-way streets. Certain road works to enable the system to work smoothly will be started soon. I regret that the procedures necessary to authorise these works took longer than expected.

The ultimate solution to the traffic problem in East Ilsley is the by-pass, which I intend to construct as soon as funds permit.
