§ 95. Mr. Grimondasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs, in view of continuing rent increases, what action he proposes to take to assist tenants who are in difficulties as a result of decontrol.
§ Mr. BrookeThe Government have no intention of interfering with the decontrol provisions of the Rent Act; but last August I sent a circular to local authorities in the Greater London area, suggesting ways in which they could help tenants who were in difficulties, and inviting them to consider compulsory purchase in cases where tenants were in 195W danger of being made homeless under threat of exorbitant rents. This circular remains valid, and its contents have attracted wide publicity. I do not think that any further action on my part is called for.
