HC Deb 18 April 1961 vol 638 cc83-4W
Captain Kerby

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what factors are taken into consideration when the work of an officer is being assessed to decide if an annual increment should be paid to him.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The decision is for the Governor, and the efficiency, diligence and fidelity with which an officer has discharged his duties are taken into account.

Captain Kerby

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies when the head of a department reports that an officer's work and conduct have been so unsatisfactory as to merit a recommendation that his probationary appointment be terminated, under what circumstances an annual increment can still be paid to him.

Mr. Iain Macleod

Increments are payable by sanction of the Officer Administering the Government who has authority to decide in what circumstances they may be paid.
