§ 67. Mr. Abseasked the Minister of Health what was the original estimated cost of the extension to the burns unit at St. Lawrence Hospital, Chepstow; what has been the cost incurred to date; what was the original date of completion of the scheme; what is the reason for the delay; and, in view of the recent collapse of a large section of the theatre ceiling, what action is intended to be taken against the contractors.
§ Miss PittThis unit has been extended on three separate occasions between January, 1955, and December, 1959. The estimated cost of the three schemes was £37,127 and the actual cost £44,475. Completion periods were put at 6, 12 and 4 months, and completion was achieved in 7, 15 and 4 months respectively. The reasons for the collapse of three square yards of the theatre ceiling are still under investigation.
