Mr. Dodds

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he replied to the communication sent to him by the Civil Service Clerical Association concerning methods of reducing the number of clerks in the Civil Service by over 13,000; what was the nature of his reply; and if he will make a statement.

The Treasury informed the Secretary of the Civil Service Clerical Association, some time ago orally and last week in writing, that his Association's proposals are being examined in collaboration with the main employing Departments. On the merits of those proposals. I have nothing to add to what my hon. Friend the Financial Secretary told the House on 8th November.
