64. Mr. McInnes

asked the Minister of Labour how many youths were unemployed and how many vacancies were unfilled in the Glasgow and Birmingham exchange areas, respectively, at the latest date for which figures are available.

Mr. P. Thomas

In Glasgow there were 862 boys and 189 girls registered as wholly unemployed on 11th April, and youth employment officers were holding 445 unfilled vacancies for boys and 1,323 for girls. In Birmingham, there were 547 boys and 510 girls wholly unemployed, and 1,964 unfilled vacancies for boys, and 2,013 for girls.
